Last week we attended the Toronto Kpop Con! Produced by Pop! Goes the World! it’s the largest Kpop convention in Canada! We were lucky enough that the Korea Tourism Organization – Toronto Office hooked us up and surprised us with Day6 fan meeting tickets!
Held at the Metro Toronto Convention Center, the convention spanned 3 days. With over 60 events, and 28 vendors, the biggest number that mattered were the 4 Kpop groups invited from Korea. VIXX kicked things off for day 1 of the convention. The hugely popular GFriend, and the only girl group at the event, held their fan meeting on the 2nd day along with GOT7. Day6 saved the best for the last day, although GOT7 made an encore appearance so I guess they are the best of the best.
#TKC16 had several panels going with popular youtube stars like Jessie (J-Talk) giving some tips on videos. Aimee-Lee Lucas held a dance workshop which likely translated to the Kpop Dance parties held nightly throughout the event.
Members from Viki and Soompi flew in from California and New York to promote their original drama production “Drama World”, and variety show “Topp Dogg: All Kill”. If you attended the event you can get 1 month free on Viki with the promo code “TKC2016”
We were able to meet the people who run BAM, a travel/tour company. They’ve lived in Korea for a few years and it’s great to see some active promotion of not only Kpop, but travel to the motherland (my adopted motherland).
As always, the Korea Tourism Organization was on hand to give up-to-date information on anything you need to do in Korea.
I don’t have much to say about the Day6 fan meet, because it’s really one of those “you had to be there”. The group is definitely fantastic. As with JYP, and all groups signed with JYP, the music hits the right spot. Some songs the group performed included “Blood”, an upbeat high-toned vocal, and 태양 (Like The Sun). The group played their own instruments, which is unique to what you usually get in a Kpop performance. I can’t say it enough, just pure talent.
I have to confess that we didn’t know of Day6 before coming to the event, but all I can do is thank Pop! Goes the World! and the KTO for introducing us to them. We’re Day6 fans now! We’ll hold back on learning the fan chants for now though and leave that to the hardcore Kpop lovers at the event. Day6 surely felt the love from the six (Toronto).
