Hi folks!  On Saturday, January 21st, we had the opportunity to cover Urban Collide’s first event: Korenation.   In the words of Amy Zhang, Executive Director & Founder of Urban Collide, Korenation is all about “showing that performers are people too” and highlights that the community is what makes all of this possible. With that in mind, we spent most of our time backstage taking photos of the performers practicing and getting to know them.

Korenation CherieStraight from the group:  Cherie is an all-female dance group located in Toronto, Canada. Formed in 2012 as five, Cherie now has nine members: Carrie, Myla, Jazmin, Valerie, Kalli, Jane, Jieun, Darima, and Blooe. Our motivation to dance comes from our love of idols and an aspiration to maintain an active lifestyle. We hope to always bring high quality performances while still having fun. Being one of the few all-female dance groups in Toronto, Cherie is best known for its feminine charms and sweet smiles.

Korenation East 2 West LadiesDefinitely the largest of the groups, East 2 West has 3 full groups! Unfortunately we were only able to ask the all female team to pose for a group shot, due to scheduling conflicts, but we did manage to snap a few action shots of the other teams in East 2 West. Most of them hail from Montreal, and they all decided to come and join us for Korenation, so show them plenty of love!Korenation East 2 West Guys Action ShotKorenation East 2 West Mixed Action ShotYouTube

Korenation EVOOne of the three Toronto-based groups in our list, EVO hails from the Markham region. They are also affiliated with VYBE dance studio, and were an absolute treat to watch during their rehearsals. I’d love to say more about them but I’m still waiting for their response to my email.

Korenation Havoc DanceHavoc Dance is the third of the Toronto-based groups we managed to corner (I did a good job with that photo, if I dare say so myself) into talking to us. Again, as with EVO, I’ve sent them an email and am still waiting for a reply so we can share more about the team with you.

If we missed you/your group and you’d like to be featured in this post, please send a group photo with your group’s relevant information (group name, social media links, and a short blurb about your group) and we will gladly add you to our list of performers.

Please send your group’s photos and information to a.fernandez@sojuwave.com.

Thank you so much to all of the performers, volunteers, and the organizing team for bringing this wonderful project to life for our community.
